GEORGETOWN, Texas - After a short, non-traditional season the Southwestern volleyball team had a strong showing against Concordia in their spring match last week. The Pirates went 3-1 in sets (25-14, 16-25, 25-19, 15-4).
INSIGHTS FROM HEAD COACH DON FLORA
"We played with multiple line-ups and saw numerous newcomers step up into new roles. We played stellar defense, digging 82 balls over the four sets, a very impressive 20.5 digs per set. Brandi Campos led with 28. This has been a strong area of focus in our spring training and it is nice to see hard work show up in real time matches."
Southwestern had 11 aces on the day with Beltz leading the team with three. Landri Brown posted 11 kills while Kassi White and Jamison Duck added seven each.
Landri Brown led us with (11) kills, Kassi White and Jamison Duck had (7) kills each. The coaches saw the athletes really work on their attacking decisions and options, which has been a huge focus in our spring development.
"Having good rhythm in our offense from Megan Grimes allowed us to play with tempo and keep pressure on Concordia," said Coach Flora. "We had to work hard to slow down their fast tempo offense, and this was a nice area to see us compete under pressure from Concordia University' offense. Overall, our serve receive was clean once we got some quality touches on our platforms in set one. After set one we passed the ball at a high level."
