GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates women's tennis team swept Occidental 9-0 in straight sets at home on Saturday.
The Pirates tore through doubles with Esther Bowers and Cecile Wilde winning 8-4 in the no. 1 spot over Jane Wright and Katie Wolber and Mary Cardone and Mariana Quetzeri defeating Andrea Clawson and Zoe Campbell 8-2 in the second.
The Pirates carried that momentum into singles, sweeping through Occidental.
"The girls came out focused today and I love what they did in doubles. The energy was up and the intensity was high," Head Coach Billy Porter said. "Nina and Stephanie were down 4-7, so for them to come back and get that win really set the tone for us.
"Mary played extremely well at the net today in singles, creating many great angles with her aggressive approach."
