KERRVILLE, Texas - Southwestern got off to a slow start offensively including a six point second quarter and their late game run came up short as they lost 58-53 to Schreiner Saturday.
Schreiner led by as many as 18 points with 2:08 to play in the third, but Southwestern started to chip away and cut the lead to nine with 6:45 remaining. With under a minute to go SU got within seven and came within five after Madison Edwards' three with five seconds remaining but ran out of time to complete the comeback.
Southwestern shot 33.3% from the floor and 25% from three point range and was led by Madison Edwards' 16 points. Cecily Woolfok posted another double-double with 15 points and 11 boards while Zhazze Brown added 10 points.
The Pirates drop to 8-14 on the year and 5-6 in the SCAC. They return home to face the University of Dallas on Friday night. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
