GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern was firing on all cylinders as they controlled every aspect of the game in a 76-45 win over the University of Dallas on Saturday.
Southwestern was blazing out of the gate, scoring on their first three offensive possessions. Southwestern allowed the Crusaders back in the game from the free throw line as UD entered the bonus just seven minutes into the game.
In the blink of an eye SU's defense took off as they rattled off basket after basket to push their lead to 14, 29-15 with six minutes to go in the half.
Southwestern led by 19, 39-20 by the time the halftime buzzer sounded with Annie Bourne posting 13 points and the SU defense holding UD to 18.4% from the floor.
The Pirates opened the second half with a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 31 in the first four minutes and never looked back, dominating on both ends of the floor.
When all was said and done, Southwestern won 76-45 and was one free throw shy of tying the SU record for made free throws.
Annie Bourne and Chelsea Leeder both posted double-doubles in the win. Leeder had 19 points and 11 rebounds while Bourne scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Valerie Logan had five steals while SU forced 17 UD turnovers and held Dallas to 23.9% for the game and 5.3% from three point range.
With the win SU moves to 10-10 on the year and 6-3 in the SCAC. Dallas drops to 11-9 and 3-6 in conference play. The Pirates move into third place in the conference and head to Sherman to face fifth place Austin College.
