AUSTIN, Texas - Southwestern women's basketball was -15 in rebounding margin and took five fewer free throws than Concordia made as SU fell 84-63 on Friday night.
The Pirates started well and led in the first half with 11 minutes to play, but Concordia took control from the free throw line and three point range to lead by two, 41-39 at the half.
SU regained the lead on Chelsea Leeder's layup five minutes into the second half, 47-46, but the Pirates' offense soon cooled while the Tornados pulled ahead 65-56 with 9:31 to play.
Concordia closed out the game on a 19-7 run in the final 9:31 to arrive at the 84-63 final.
Southwestern shot 40% for the game while Concordia was slightly better at 43.1%, but had 12 more possessions than the Pirates. Tyler Compton of Concordia led all scorers with 30 points while Audrey Garcia led the Pirates with 13 points, shooting 5-9 from the floor and 3-7 from three point range.
Annie Bourne led all rebounders with 11 boards as the Pirates lost the rebounding battle 50-35.
Southwestern falls to 1-2 on the year and look to snap the two-game losing streak on Saturday as they play a neutral-site contest against Westminster College at 4:00 pm.
