Baseball completes sweep of Blackburn with run-rule victories on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern pushed its win streak to five games, as the Pirates swept a doubleheader from Blackburn Saturday at Rockwell Field. Southwestern claimed the middle game of the series 11-1 in seven innings and captured a 17-1 victory in seven to close out the set.

The Pirates (11-11) used two pitchers in the first game of the day to combine for a two-hitter. Jacob Kendra (2-0) picked up the win after hurling six frames, allowing one run on two hits. The right-hander also struck out nine.

In the nightcap, four Southwestern hurlers limited the Beavers (1-9) to only three hits and a run. Collin Buckley (2-0) earned the victory in relief, as the righty threw a scoreless fourth inning and struck out one.

The Pirates collected 26 hits in the twinbill, including 10 for extra bases.

Ben Little tallied a 4 for 5 performance with a double, a homer and two RBIs in the series finale.

Southwestern will return to action next weekend in a conference series at Schreiner.

Ethan Hallmark also hit .500 (6 for 12) with three doubles, a grand slam and seven RBIs.

• The Pirates also posted 27 strikeouts and allowed only four walks and five hits on the weekend.
Jeremy Rice threw a nine-inning no-hitter in Friday's opener.
