Gentry Named to AVCA Division III Third Team All-America

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 28th annual AVCA All-America and All-Region teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball. Southwestern University had 4 players named in the announcement, 1 receiving All-America honors.
Junior Audra Gentry was announced as Third-Team All-America. Gentry, an outside hitter from Albuquerque, New Mexico, lead the Pirates in kills with 432, averaging nearly 3.5 kills per set. She was also second in the team with 458 digs (3.69/set) and had no ball handling errors in 124 sets. In addition to the All-America honors, Gentry was also named to the South All-Region team.
Defensive specialist, Junior Samantha Lingamfelter also earned South All-Region honors. Lingamfelter was a constant for the Pirates, playing in 138 of the 146 sets this season. She also lead the team with 634 digs, just over 4.5 per set and tallied 80 service aces on the season.
Joining Lingamfelter and Gentry on the South All-Region team was freshman middle blocker Lindsay Thompson. Thompson was fourth on the team in kills (273) but had the highest hitting percentage of the main points of attack at 36.3%. Recording blocks was a major part of Lindsay's game, leading the team in both blocking categories with 34 solo blocks and 99 blocking assists.
Rounding out the All-Region honors was junior middle blocker Lauren Brown, who was named as an Honorable Mention. Brown was second on the team in kills (340), service aces (61), and blocks (16 solo and 74 assisted).
The Pirates ended the season with a 36-5 record, 15-1 in the conference. They once again advanced to the NCAA tournament where they defeated the University of Texas at Dallas and #11 Trinity before falling to #2 Emory in the Regional Final. The end of the season completes the careers of two seniors, Katie Hollyfield and Danielle Bochat.
