Volleyball Honored for Academic Accomplishments
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced this summer that 481 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2010-2011 season including Southwestern University. This number once again breaks the previous years' total of 450 and sets a new all-time high for this award.

18 Pirates Earn Chi Alpha Sigma Honors
Southwestern University had 18 student-athletes inducted into the 2011 class of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Athletic Honor Society on Wednesday. This award is presented annually to juniors and seniors who have earned an athletic letter, carry a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or better and are community members in good standing.

On Tuesday, April 12, 2011 was Southwestern University’s thirteenth annual Student Leadership Banquet. Students are nominated by professors, coaches, and other staff members based on their leadership skills in everyday life on campus.

54 Student-Athletes Receive Senior Watches at Annual Ceremony
Thanks to the generous donations of parents, alumni and students in the Pirate Crew, Southwestern University's Booster Club, the Athletic Department was able to continue the tradition of awarding watches to senior athletes whom had completed eligibility while at SU.

ATLANTA, Ga. – California Lutheran used a strong and consistent attack to defeat Southwestern University in the NCAA Regional Semi-final at Emory on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates end the season at 32-7 overall.

NICHOLLS, THOMPSON EARN ALL-SOUTH REGION RECOGNITION
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced the All-Region teams for the 2010 season and Southwestern University's juniors Christina Nicholls and Lindsay Thompson received the honor. This is the second consecutive selection for Nicholls and third consecutive selection for Thompson.

GEORGETOWN, Texas - For the sixth consecutive season the Southwestern Pirates are in the NCAA National Tournament. Southwestern received one of the at-large bids after being upset in the SCAC Conference Tournament this weekend. SU faces Thomas More on Thursday, November 11th at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

PIRATES SHOCKED AT SCAC TOURNAMENT, FALL IN OPENING ROUND
SAN ANTONIO; Texas - The Pirate women's volleyball team was defeated in the opening round of the SCAC Conference tournament, falling to a dangerous Centre College team on Friday night. The loss dropped the nationally-ranked Southwestern team into the loser's bracket and, after winning out on Saturday, in fifth place in the conference.

#16 PIRATES HAVE GOOD SHOWING AGAINST TOUGH COMPETITION
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Southwestern volleyball team knew they were going to face some tough competition at their tournament in Maryville over the weekend and rose to the challenge as they emerged 3-1 from the trip. Their lone loss was in five games to #3 Emory. The Pirates are now 5-1 on the year.
