Season Opener Personal Best for Many Pirates
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Five athletes posted six personal best performances in four events in the first meet of the season for the Southwestern women's track & field team.
Busola Okunnu ran a tough race in the 100 meter dash to start things off for SU, ending in a time of 14.40 while Dianna Urrego notched the first top ten finish of the day for Southwestern, taking sixth place in the 400 with a time of 1:08.62.
Lilly Duarte ran well in the 800, recording a third place finish in a personal best time of 2:27.74 while Meg Greefield was close behind in 11th place in a time of 2:37.15.
Duarte continued her strong runs with another personal best performance in the 1500, taking second with a time of 4:56.36, just two seconds behind the leader. Laura Wooden also posted a personal best time of 5:35.81 in the event for a 16th place finish.
Emily Ammon and Sarah Puffer had top ten finishes in the 400 hurdles, both in personal best times. Ammon's time of 1:15.77 earned her sixth place while Puffer was hot on her heals with a time of 1:19.28 for seventh.
The relay teams had top ten finishes as well. The 4x100 relay of Okunnu, Ammon, Wilson and Urrego took second while the 4x400 relay of Duarte, Greefield, Puffer and Urrego took sixth.
Jodi Wilson had a personal best throw of 91 feet in the javelin in field events for Southwestern.
The Pirates will look to build off their strong start at the University of Incarnate Word Invitational on March 5th.
