PIRATES TAKING BIG STRIDES HEADING INTO SCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The women's track and field team continues to make vast improvements in events as they head into the SCAC Championships this coming weekend. Friday, the Pirates took part in the Tiger Twilight and put up 10 season best performances including breaking an SU record.
Taylin Eckols broke her own Southwestern record in the javelin by over one meter during the competition. Her toss of 28.91 meters earned her an eighth place finish. Teammates Jennifer Tindle and Jodi Wilson were just behind Eckols as both had season best throws in the event, Tindle at 20.43 and Wilson at 19.75.
Eckols also had a season best performance in the shot put as well, 9.38 meters, for sixth place.
Tindle took sixth in the triple jump at 10.12 meters and Nekia Tharps jumped a season best 4.58 meters in the long jump.
On the track the season best performances continued. Dianna Urrego ran a 1:07.46 for sixth place in the 400 meter dash and all three Pirates, Christina Hadly (5:33), Laura Wooden (5:36) and Lili McEntire (5:47), posted season best times in the 1500 meter run. The 4x100 meter relay also put up a season best finish at 52.81.
Other finishes for the Pirates were a seventh place finish by Kelly Myers in the 100 hurdles at 17.59 and Busola Okunnu's 10th place finish in the 100 meter dash at 14.43.
Southwestern hits the road to compete at the SCAC Championships held in Conway, Arkansas. Competition begins on Friday, April 23rd and results can be found at http://www.hendrix.edu/athletics/content.aspx?id=46315.
