Season and Personal Bests Fall as Pirates Prepare for SCAC Championships

The Southwestern Pirates are peaking at just the right time as nine personal and season bests fell at the University of the Incarnate Word Invitiational. 

Melissa Nelson started off the pace setting with her season best in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.75, which was good enough for 12th place.  Sarah Ayers was the top Pirate finisher in the event with a time of 2:12.60 in her 2nd place effort.  Emily Haskell placed 11th in the 50 freestyle with a personal best time of 25.72.  Christine Moody also turned in a top 20 finish in the event with a time of 26.21.  Racking up another top 10 finish for the Pirates, Elizabeth Lewis swam a 4:56.12 in the 400 IM, good enough for 7th place.  Melissa Nelson added to the point total with her 11th place finish in the 400 IM thanks to a season best 5:00.66.  Sarah Ayers placed 6th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:00.78, just 2 seconds out of 1st and less than half a second out of 4th.  In the 200 freestyle Emily Haskell downed another personal best by swimming a 2:05.23 and finishing in 26th.  Mara Weidmann joined the action with a 10th place finish thanks to a season best 1:13.65 in the 100 breast stroke.  Sarah Ayers placed 5th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.98.  The relay teams continue to have a stellar year for the Pirates as teh 800 freestyle relay turned in a season best 8:33.93.  The team consisted of Elizabeth Lewis, Melissa Nelson, Emmy Gradisar, and Katie Lelinski.  Emily Haskell topped of an excellent personal meet with another personal best in the 100 freestyle, :56.53, and a 17th place finish.  Ayers placed 6th in the same event with a 54.40.  The 200 yard breast stroke saw Sarah McCausland place 11th with a time of 2:40.23.  In the 200 butterfly Melissa Nelson set a season best with a 2:18.56 and a 12th place finish.  The 400 freestyle relay team of Sarah Alpini, Sarah Ayers, Emily Haskell, and Melissa Nelson added to their impressive year with a new season best of 3:47.46.  The Pirates placed 5th with 310 points.  

 

The Pirates will return to action February 16-18 at the SCAC Championships at Rockwall, TX.
