Pirates Drop McMurry Meet by a Narrow Margin

The Pirate women's swim team dropped a close meet to McMurry University 101 to 95 Friday.  The Pirates had several first and second place finishes, including complete domination of the freestyle relay in which the Pirates placed first and second, outpacing McMurry University by seventeen and nine seconds.

In the 400 yard medley relay, Southwestern's team of Bailey Thompson, Mara Weidmann, Sarah Ayers, and Miche Comerota finished second with a time of 4:13.44, just one second out of first place.  Elizabeth Lewis finished in second and earned four points for the Pirates in the 1000 yard freestyle, despite being the only Pirate to compete in the event for the women.  Sarah Alpini and Christine Moody finished second and fourth in the 200 yard freestyle with times of 2:09.33 and 2:14.48.  The Pirates earned 7 points in the 50 yard freestyle thanks to Miche Comerota, 2nd place-26.55, Katie Vazquez, 4th, and Katie Coleman, 5th.  In the 200 IM, the Pirates placed first and second, taking 13 points thanks to Melissa Nelson, 2:21.45, and Mara Weidmann, 2:24.64.  The third palce finisher finished more than 2 seconds behind both Pirates.  Melissa Nelson placed second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:21.00.  The Pirates placed three in the top five of the 100 yard freestyle with Sarah Ayers finishing second with a time of 56.78, Christine Moody finishing fourth with a time of 1:00.92, a half a second out of thrid, and Katie Coleman finishing fifth with a time of 1:05.15.  Bailey Thompson and Anne Stankus finished first and fourth in the women's 200 yard backstroke with times of 2:15.96, four seconds ahead of second place, and 2:31.00.  The women placed in second, third, and fifth in the 500 yard freestyle thanks to efforts by Elizabeth Lewis, 5:35.32, Sarah McCausland 5:49.07, and Katie Coleman, 6:23.65.  In the 200 yard breaststroke Mara Weidmann placed first with a time of 2:41.02.  She was followed in second by Pirate Bailey Thompson, 2:52.40.  Southwestern also finished first and second in the 400 yard freestyle relay.  Comerota, Nelson, McCausland, and Ayers placed first with a time of 3:56.10 while Stankus, Moody, Alpini, and Lewis placed second with a time of 4:04.46.
