18 Pirates Earn Chi Alpha Sigma Honors
Southwestern University had 18 student-athletes inducted into the 2011 class of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Athletic Honor Society on Wednesday. This award is presented annually to juniors and seniors who have earned an athletic letter, carry a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or better and are community members in good standing.

Keller, Ayers Selected as Kassen/Lowry Athletes-of-the-Year 2011
Southwestern University announced the 2011 Dr. Tex Kassen and Dr. Carla Lowry Athlete-of-the-Year awards which denote the top male and female athlete at Southwestern for that given school year. Senior men’s soccer player Alex Keller (pictured, left) and junior swimmer Sarah Ayers (pictured, right) were chosen among numerous candidates as this year’s recipients of the esteemed award.

Flanigan, Ayers Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large First Team
The 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large (Sports) Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and in the classroom. Sophomore swimmer Patrick Flanigan (pictured, left) and junior swimmer Sarah Ayers (pictured, right) were selected. Flanigan is one of three SCAC male athletes to be recognized in the report while Ayers is one of four.

54 Student-Athletes Receive Senior Watches at Annual Ceremony
Thanks to the generous donations of parents, alumni and students in the Pirate Crew, Southwestern University's Booster Club, the Athletic Department was able to continue the tradition of awarding watches to senior athletes whom had completed eligibility while at SU.

Ayers Completes Historical Swims at NCAA Championships
Southwestern junior Sarah Ayers put forth a sensational performance at the NCAA Swim and Dive Championships in Knoxville, TN over the past three days. The junior improved her time in each event and is the first Pirate to advance to the finals at the Championships and earn All-American status, doing so in the 100 back and finishing in 7th place in the nation.

Ayers Explodes On Day Two of SCAC Swim & Dive Championships
SHENANDOAH, Texas - Junior Sarah Ayers had a fantastic day two at the SCAC Swim & Dive Championships, winning the 100 back, taking second in the 100 fly and helping the 200 medley relay to a fifth place finish. She hit an NCAA Automatic qualifying standard in the 100 back and will be traveling to Knoxville, Tenn. in March for the Championships.

Pirates Swim Well on Senior Day
The Southwestern swimmers came up short against Trinity University Saturday afternoon in a 180-98 loss with the lopsided score due in part to diving scores added into the meet. During the meet, two Pirate swimmers set team bests for the year and while the Pirates took first place in four events.

SARAH AYERS OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week for all meets from Monday, January 10 through Sunday, January 16.

Pirates Pull Out Impressive Win in Colorado
As an exclamation to winter training, the Pirate women took on the Colorado school of Mines and scored an impressive victory 144-102. The Pirates were once again led by their impressive relay teams that finished first and third in the 400 yard medley relay and first and second in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Southwestern swimmers took first place in 9 of 13 events and finished with at least one swimmer in the top 3 in every event. Coach Dan Carrington called this an impressive win for the women after some very hard training at a very high altitude. Both the men's and women's swim teams will compete Saturday at the Austin College Invitational.

Pirates Waters No Place for Lady 'Roos
The Pirate women blew the lady 'Roos out of the water in the first conference meet held in Georgetown on Saturday. Southwestern dominated the womens' half of the meet by defeating Austin College 130-64. The Pirates took first place in all but two events on the afternoon, often taking the top two and three spots in each event.

Pirates Show Strong at Southwest Shootout
The Pirates competed on Friday and Saturday at the Southwest Shootout. The Pirates swam against DI, DII, and DIII teams. The news of the meet was the Pirates' improvement of season bests. The Pirates improved 80% of their best times of the season. The women finished 5th out of 11 teams and finshed behind only 1 other SCAC school. Three of the four relay top times were improved upon during The Southwest Shootout.

The Southwestern women were narrowly defeated 151 to 102 by former Division I competitor Centenary despite several top finished and improved times by the Pirates.

Pirates Drop McMurry Meet by a Narrow Margin
The Pirate women's swim team dropped a close meet to McMurry University 101 to 95 Friday. The Pirates had several first and second place finishes, including complete domination of the freestyle relay in which the Pirates placed first and second, outpacing McMurry University by seventeen and nine seconds.
