PIRATE SWIMMERS EARN FOURTH HIGHEST TEAM GPA IN DIVISION III
The CSCAA named its 2009 Scholar Athlete Awards and Southwestern's Jessie Carrier was named in the report. To be selected to the All-American team, swimmers must qualify for the NCAA Championship meet and achieve a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Honorable Mention selections must achieve a NCAA consideration time and 3.50 or higher GPA.
Overall, the Pirate's 3.52 team GPA was the fourth highest in Division III and eighth nationally throughout all Divisions for the 2008-2009 season.
Carrier was the first-ever participant for Southwestern at the
NCAA Swim and Dive Championships. She competed in the 50 free, 100
free and 200 free where she finished in 20th, 36th and 62nd
respectively. Carrier is also the first-ever Academic All-American
in the program's history.
Increased championship participation caps, along with the impact of
high-tech suits produced a bumper crop of selections with 471
first-team selections and an additional 430 honorable mentions
totaling a record 901 individual certificates.
The University of Florida led the nation with nineteen Scholar
