SOUTHWESTERN SOFTBALL SPLITS AT ETBU

Southwestern University's softball team split their double-header at East Texas Baptist University on Sunday to move to 5-7 on the season.
The Pirates pounced on the Tigers early in game one, scoring two runs in the first and two runs in the second inning to go up 4-0.
Quincy Meeker started off the game with a walk and Katelyn Gola followed with a single to right field to move Meeker to third. Blair Wallace stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single to left field to bring in Meeker for the first run. Kaitlyn Pavlicek grounded to third but moved both Gola and Wallace into scoring position. Kat Hoover grounded out to second base but drove in Gola for the second Pirate run.
In the second inning, Taylor Turpin walked and then stole second base to start the inning off. Erin Fonseca singled to left field and moved Turpin to third and in position to take advantage of a wild pitch by Wright and score. Fonseca stole home for the second run of the inning to put Southwestern up 4-0.
ETBU put two runs on the board in the fourth inning on a two-run double to left field by Jones to cut the Pirates' lead to 4-2.
Southwestern added to their lead in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI single to left field by Pavlicek. The Pirates handled three Tigers in a row in the bottom of the inning to secure the win, 5-2.
At the start of game two, both teams put one run on the board early. The game remained tied at one through five and a half innings, but the Tigers scored one in the bottom of the fifth and three in the sixth to take the back end of the double header 5-1.
Pavlicek led the Pirates offensively going 4-7 with one run and one RBI over the two games. Wallace and Meeker were standouts in the first game. Meeker was 2-3 with one run and Wallace was 3-4 with one RBI.
Lyndsy Maus earned the win in game one going 5.1 innings, allowing five hits, two runs (one earned) and recorded seven strike outs and walking none. Pavlicek, who came in relief in game one, received the loss in game two.
The Pirates return home on Tuesday for a double-header against Concordia University-Austin. Game one is set to begin at 1:00.
