Biggers Named SCAC Character & Community Honoree
Lindsay Biggers, a sophomore outfielder on the Pirates' softball team from Brenham, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending April 7, 2013.
Biggers has been a Resident Assistant in Brown-Cody, the all women's residence hall for first-years, at Southwestern. Her duties range from hall-program planning to helping students with roommate conflicts or issues a typical new college student may experience.
As a member of Sigma Phi Lambda, Sisters for the Lord, Biggers has been involved with various community services projects. The sorority handed out free cookies with Bible verses attached to students on campus. They participate in Relay For Life, donating money and time to this event that raises funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.
During Christmas time, Biggers participated in an event called Angle Tree, where individuals at Southwestern donated presents to families in need through the Salvation Army.
Last year, Biggers mentored at Mitchell Elementary in Georgetown. This activity involves going to the elementary school and playing games, reading books, and doing schoolwork with her Spanish-speaking kindergarten mentees.
Biggers has been active in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to support breast cancer awareness and continues to donate to this cause. She created a team that participated in the 5K race in Austin and plans to do this yearly. The money raised stays in the local community to fund breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects.
