SHREVEPORT, Louisiana – Southwestern broke out and dominated Centenary in the Sunday series and won 25-1, 12-1, and 9-6.
In game one, the Pirates scored 11 runs in the first frame and never looked back. Kayla Irvin hit a grand slam and blasted a two run homer in the same inning. Michelle Ramos added to the lead with a solo shot over the wall in center field in the second.
Centenary's lone run came in the bottom of the second as Warren drew a bases loaded walk to make it 13-1.
Southwestern scored 12 more unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the win. Four of the runs came on another grand slam, this time courtesy of Stacy Rosengren. Kayla Irvin pitched well and gave up only two hits scattered over five innings of work.
In game two of the day, the home runs continued for the Pirates. Rosengren crushed a three run homer to give SU the 3-0 lead in the first inning. She hit another one, this time a solo round tripper in the third. Tessa Galloway contributed a two run home run to left field in the frame as well. The Pirates scored a total of six runs in that inning and added one more in the fifth to seal the 12-1 victory.
Kayla Irvin gave up only three hits over five innings and struck out six batters en route to her second win of the day.
Game three started off with a similar feel as Galloway homered to left field to give the Pirates the 1-0 lead in the first inning. Southwestern built a 9-0 lead by scoring a run in the second and exploding for 7 runs in the third.
Centenary countered with a pair of three run homers from Swift. She hit one in the third and one in the fourth to cut it to a 9-6 game.
The scoreboard remained at 9-6 for the remainder of the game and Irvin and the Pirates picked up their third win of the day. Southwestern advanced to 18-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The Pirates next play Howard Payne in a doubleheader at home on Friday, March 29th, beginning at 1:00pm.
