105 Pirates Earn SCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll Honors
SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) named 1,037 student-athletes to the 2012 SCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday. This year's total is the third-highest for a single period in the history of the award.

Pavlicek Selected to Softball SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team
SUWANEE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its fourth annual Softball All-Sportsmanship team. Ten softball players were selected to the 2012 squad including Southwestern University senior Kaitlyn Pavlicek.

Seven Pirates Named as All-SCAC Selections
SUWANEE, Ga. - Seven Southwestern softball student-athletes were named in the 2012 All-SCAC Softball Teams announced Friday night at the SCAC Conference Tournament, the most so far by the young program. Senior outfielder Taylor Turpin led the way as an All-SCAC First Team pick while senior shortstop Amanda Ambrose, first-year third baseman Ashleigh Scott and senior pitcher Lyndsy Maus were All-SCAC Second Team selections.

Big Fourth Inning Kicks Pirates From Tournament
JACKSON, Tenn. - For the second time in the day the Pirates took on a repeat opponent to stay alive in the SCAC Conference Tournament. This time the opponent was Birmingham Southern who defeated SU 4-3 on day one of the tourney and the Pirates ran out of steam offensively in game two, falling 5-1 to be eliminated from the tournament.

Hughes’ Record-Setting Performance Paces Pirates to Win
JACKSON, Tenn. - Junior first baseman Haley Hughes went 3-5 from the plate with two homeruns, her second and third homeruns of the tournament, and set a new SCAC Conference Tournament record for most homeruns in the tournament with her performance. Southwestern defeated Austin College 9-5 in game one on day two of the tournament to stay alive in the loser’s bracket.

Pirates Stay Alive with Win Over Rhodes
JACKSON, Tenn. - Rhodes College and Southwestern faced off in the eighth game of the SCAC Conference Tournament in a rematch of the opening game of the tournament. Though slow to start the Pirates revved up their offense in the second half of the game, scoring six runs in their final three at bats to win 7-2 and remain alive.

Homeruns Abound in Game Three of SCAC Championships
JACKSON, Tenn. - Five of the combined seven runs scored by Southwestern and Birmingham Southern in game three of the SCAC Conference Tournament came off two swings of the bat with each team posting a multi-run homerun in the game. BSC scored in the bottom of the sixth to claim the lead and hand SU a 4-3 loss.

2012 SCAC Spring Championships - Tournament Links and Brackets
SUWANEE, Ga. - The busiest weekend of the 2011-12 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference sports season has arrived. Championships in the spring sports will be decided over the course of four days beginning on Thursday, April 26 with the Southwestern softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf and men's and women's track & field competing.

JACKSON, Tenn. – The West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex in Jackson, Tenn., will host the 2012 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Softball Championship, April 27-29. Six teams will compete for the conference title and a berth in the NCAA national tournament.

39 Student-Athletes Receive Senior Watches at Annual Ceremony
GEORGETOWN, Texas - Thanks to the generous donations of parents, alumni and students in the Pirate Crew, Southwestern University's Booster Club, the Athletic Department was able to continue the tradition of awarding watches to senior athletes whom had completed eligibility while at SU. This is the third year for the ceremony.

Big Bats Sweep Crusaders on Sunday
IRVING, Texas - The Pirate softball offense continues to light up opponents and did so again on Sunday with 26 hits in two games, winning 6-0, 6-0 on Sunday afternoon over the University of Dallas. The wins improve SU to 9-1 in the SCAC and tied for first place in the West.

IRVING, Texas - With two wins over the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon the Southwestern softball team firmed up a spot in the SCAC Conference Tournament. The Pirates won game one 8-2 before posting a 6-0 shutout in game two.

Setting the Standard
GEORGETOWN, Texas - When the softball team defeated Hendrix 8-0 in its last conference home game this year, it was more than just another win for the team. It was the last home game for the first group of women to play softball at Southwestern. Despite being pioneers in a new sport at Southwestern, these students have done well by all standards – both on and off the field.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Pirates celebrated Senior Day with a pair of wins against Hendrix College. Southwestern won 5-2 and 8-0 receiving stellar performances from the honored guests of the afternoon. The team and fans recognized seniors, Taylor Turpin, Lyndsy Maus, Kaitlyn Pavlicek, Amanda Ambrose and Lauren Zearfoss for their immeasurable contributions to the program in a ceremony following the games.

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern pitching staff got limited run support early as the Pirates opened conference action with a win and a loss on Saturday afternoon. SU fell 4-0 in game one before turning things around in game two to win 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh.

Softball Earns NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete Award
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Over 4,000 student-athletes representing 707 different academic institutions were named as a 2011 NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete, the Association announced Thursday. Seniors Lyndsy Maus (pictured, left) and Taylor Turpin (pictured, right) earned the individual awards for Southwestern University while the team ranked in the top 100 and named as an All-Academic Team.

Revamped Training Room Offers Better Service to Athletes
Thanks to generous donations and various fundraising events throughout the years the Southwestern University Athletic Department unveiled their newly remodeled athletic training facility this fall. The updates include an expanded treatment area, additional taping/treatment tables, custom paint (with logos still to come), a flat-screen television, new computers and new countertops.
