Women's Soccer Splits Final Weekend of Regular Season
Nov. 11, 2008
The Southwestern University Women's Soccer team started off the weekend Friday in solid fashion with a 2-0 victory over DePauw (5-11-2, 3-5 SCAC).
Senior Forward Casey Grier took control of the game by scoring at the 9 minute mark and then again at 53:14. Both goals were unassisted.
The SU Defense was as sharp as ever, only allowing DePauw 3 shots on goal for the entire match and no corner kicks.
Sunday's match with Centre College was a different story. The Pirates started off well, again, with Sophomore Midfielder Danielle Madison assisting Sophomore Forward Amy Douglas' goal at 21:31, the first goal of the match. The Pirates stayed ahead through the remainder of the first half and most of the second. However, at 80:48, Centre's Erin Menard scored an unassisted goal to tie the game. Regulation would end with the game in a tie and push the teams into overtime.
Not even two minutes into the extra period, Centre College found the back of the net once again. Centre's Brittany Garr scored the game winning goal at 91:24 and was assisted by Allison Terry.
Southwestern's Senior goalkeeper, Eryn Snyder, recorded 7 saves during the contest with Centre taking 18 shots.
The Pirates end the season with a record of 13-4-1 overall, 6-3 SCAC and tied for second in the conference.
