Women's Soccer Takes Down Hardin-Simmons 1-0

Oct. 20, 2008

Southwestern women's soccer brought home their seventh win in a row on Friday, taking down American Southwest Conference leaders Hardin-Simmons 1-0. With the win, the Pirates broke a thirty-two game regular season home winning streak for the Cowgirls, their first loss since 2005.

A.J. Andreola, named SCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week the previous Wednesday, scored the lone goal in the 70th minute when Amy Douglas capitalized off a defensive misplay. "It was a fantastic goal," said head coach Jené Baclawski. "Hardin-Simmons played well the entire game, and they threw everything at us to try and win it back, but we weathered the storm and remained dangerous."

While Hardin-Simmons had a slight edge in shots during the game at 11-9, the Pirates made more of their opportunities, coming away with five shots on goal against two for the Cowgirls. Eryn Snyder recorded another shutout for the team, their fifth this season, with her goal-against average at an impressive 0.66 over thirteen games.

The non-conference win bumps up Southwestern's record to 10-2-1 (5-1 SCAC), while Hardin-Simmons, who is currently ranked fifth in the region (one place ahead of SCAC rivals Trinity University), falls to 8-3-3. Conference play will resume this weekend on Friday, October 24 against Millsaps and Sunday, October 26 against Birmingham-Southern.
