Seventeen Saves for Goalkeeper Eryn Snyder as Women's Soccer Bring Home a Tie and a Loss
Sept. 8, 2008
Senior goalkeeper Eryn Snyder racked up a combined total of 17 saves over the weekend as Southwestern women's soccer took on University of Texas at Dallas and University of Texas at Tyler, coming home with a tie and a loss.
Friday's game against UT-Dallas stretched out to a grueling double overtime as the Pirates pummeled the Comets but were unable to come away with a goal. While closely matched with Dallas in numbers, "we were much more dangerous than the box score indicates," explains head coach Jené Baclawski. Southwestern held possession of the ball for most of the game, and while close corner kicks by sophomores Danielle Madison and Lauren Kjolhede pushed Dallas's defense to their limits, shots were either off-target or blocked by keeper Andrea Jones. By the close of the second overtime period, goalkeeper Eryn Snyder had accumlated an incredible single-game total of 11 saves.
On Saturday, Southwestern took on UT-Tyler, who had also faced a SCAC school on Friday in a double overtime tie game. Weariness got the better of the Pirates, though, as a barrage of shots throughout the game began to find their way through in the second half, giving the Patriots a three point edge within fifteen minutes. Under continued pressure by a more experienced team, Tyler held the Southwestern women scoreless and handed them their first away loss of the season.
Coming away from the weekend with a 1-1-1 record, the Pirates look forward to their fifth consecutive game on the road this Saturday (September 13) against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
