Friday (May 16) saw the best-ever finish at the NCAA Division III National Championship for the Southwestern University women's golf team as the Pirates took third place in Waverly, IA. Kristen Davenport (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS), a sophomore, led the Pirates overall and on the day with a four-round tally of 314 (76-84-77-77) for a 19th-place tie. Next for SU was junior Marisa Mauldin (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS) who closed the tournament tied for 21st with a score of 316 (76-78-81-81). Junior Delilah Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) tied for 27th place with a 319 (79-82-79-79). In a 37th-place tie was Cody Wallace (Austin, TX/Lake Travis HS) with a total of 323 (87-76-76-84). Victoria Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS), a first-year, closes out the tournament with a 336 (78-84-81-94) , good an 80th-place tie. The Pirates fired a 1263 (309-320-313-321) as a team for third place. Last year, the Pirates recorded a then program-best fourth place finish with a team score of 1322. Methodist University won for the ninth-straight season with a total score of 1219. DePauw University took second. In 2007, Methodist won the tournament by 92 strokes.
