On Sunday (Apr. 27) in Danville, IN the SU women's golf team won the SCAC Championship and junior Marisa Mauldin (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS) won SCAC Golfer of the Year for the second straight year as the team secured its berth to the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championship in Waverly, IA. Mauldin won by four strokes to take top honors and First Team All-SCAC status for the second time. She fired a three-round total of 236 (78-76-82) to win by four strokes. Mauldin has now been an All-SCAC performer all three years she has been at SU. Junior Delilah Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) shot a 244 (80-86-78) to place sixth and earn Second Team All-SCAC honors. Also receiving All-SCAC Second Team honors is Kristen Davenport (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS) who tied for eighth with a 249 (89-79-81). Cody Wallace (Austin, TX/Lake Travis HS) just missed out on All-Conference as she ended the tournament 11th, totaling a 254 (89-80-85). First-year Victoria Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) finished in 16th after shooting 260 (91-90-79). Through two rounds, Southwestern led host DePauw University by five strokes. At the end of the final round, the Pirates had a team total of 977 (336-321-320) to finish six strokes ahead of the Tigers. SU will travel to Waverly, IA for the NCAA Championship at Centennial Oaks Golf Club from May 13-16. Last year, the Pirates placed fourth out of 20 teams at the tournament.
