BELTON, Texas - The women's golf team opened their spring season with a shortened contest at the UMHB Spring Invitational, finishing in fifth place.
The invitational kicked off the tournament on Monday, but after 10 holes the day was called due to high, intense winds making play impossible.
Play resumed on Tuesday and the Pirates struggled to regain their footing. Karissa Speck led the way with a 10-over-par 82 to finish tied for 10th overall. Keeley Coburn wasn't far behind as she tied for 18th with an 85. Bernice Leonard finished tied for 29th with a 90 and Kelsey Coburn tied for 31st with a 91. Lauren Boone rounded out the Pirates' play with a 94.
Southwestern finished with 348 strokes and in fifth place. Redlands Community College won the event with a 311.
The Pirates return to action on March 15th as they play in the ultra-comptitive Jekyll Island Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe.
