Women's Golf Places Fifth on Challenging Course

TEMPLE, Texas - Southwestern faced one of the toughest courses they have seen so far this season at the UMHB Lady Cru Fall Invitational and came home with a fifth place finish. 

Kelsey Coburn continued her strong play for the Pirates, leading the way with a 159 (79-80) and in ninth place. Lauren Boone was close behind with a 162 (82-80) in tenth place. Western Texas Community College's Stephanie Bertelsen won the event with a 152. 

Karissa Speck (87-82) and Bernice Leonard (82-87) swapped scores and finished tied with each other for 24th with a 169 while Stephanie Scholer came in tied for 43rd with 179 strokes. 

The Southwetern Gold team came in tenth place overall with Keeley Coburn leading that squad with 174 strokes (85-89) and tied for 30th while Korey Coburn finished tied for 35th with 176 strokes. Katie McCance and Jenny Smith rounded out the Gold team scores with a 213 and 214 respectively.

SU heads to the Al Jones Memorial in Tyler, Texas on October 1-2 for their next competition and will be their last tune-up before competing in the invitation-only tournament in Destin, Florida, the Golf Week Preview, on October 14-16.
