Speck Named as NGCA All-American Scholar
CORAL SPRINGS, Florida – The National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Teams for Division I, II & III were announced today with a total of 566 women’s collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. including Southwestern University junior, Karissa Speck. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.

The National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) has announced the 2010-11 student-athlete and coaches awards for Division III Women’s Collegiate Golf and Southwestern University's Kelsey Coburn (pictured, left) and Karissa Speck (pictured, right) were named to the All-Region team. Winners were recognized at the NGCA Division III Awards Banquet held in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

With not only a challenging course facing the Pirates but immensely windy conditions at Horseshoe Bay, the Pirates had a respectable showing in the first round of the SCAC Conference Tournament, finishing the day in fifth place.

Pirates Close Regular Season with Fourth Place Finish
The Pirate women's golf team closed the regular season on Tuesday afternoon with a fourth place finish at the Southwestern Invitational held at Teravista Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. SU finished with 690 strokes and seven strokes ahead of SCAC counterpart, Trinity.

The April 4 Golf World/NGCA Division III Coaches’ Poll was released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), and the Southwestern Pirates were ranked 24th in the nation in the latest poll.

After two strong rounds at the Jekyll Island Invitational the Southwestern women's golf team had a difficult third round on Sunday afternoon, falling to eighth place overall.

Continued Improvement Highlights Pirates in Georgia
Southwestern was tied for second place after an outstanding day one, trailing Centre by just one stroke and were one stroke in front of National Champion Methodist with 323 strokes. The Pirates continued to play well but the challenging course snuck up on SU as they closed out day two in a tie for fourth with Illinois Wesleyan.
