AFTER DAY ONE PIRATES SIT IN 15TH PLACE AT NCAA TOURNAMENT
HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla. - With one round in the books at the NCAA Championships the Southwestern women's golf team is in 15th place out of 20 teams and are just six strokes away from the top 10. Defending champion Methodist holds a commanding lead over the rest of the field at +25 over par, 14 strokes ahead of second place.
Southwestern is at 62 over par with 354 strokes.
First-year Kelsey Coburn (pictured) was strong out of the gates, shooting four over par on her first nine holes. She ended at a 13 over par 86, tied for 33rd place. Teammate senior Kristen Davenport also ended at 13 over par with consistent play throughout the day, shooting +6 on the first nine and +7 on the second nine.
Stephanie Scholer closed out the first day with 90 strokes at 17 over par and in a tie for 59th place. Senior Cody Wallace was close behind at 19 over par and Erin Perry followed at 21 over par.
The Pirates will begin teeing off at 1:20 EST on the front nine on Wednesday.
