PIRATES DOMINATE IN SPRING OPENER
KERRVILLE, Texas - The Southwestern women's golf team dominated the field at their Spring opener, seizing four of the top 10 spots at the Schreiner Invitational.
Senior Kristen Davenport lead the way capturing second place overall. She led after day one shooting a 79 in her opening round but hit a rough patch in the second day of action shooting an 86 and finishing with 165 strokes, two behind top finisher Callie Rice of UT-Tyler.
First-year Erin Perry had a solid, consistent showing at the invite, shooting an 87 on day one and 83 on day two to come in a two-way tie for fourth place with 170 strokes. Senior Cody Wallace's opening round 91 but rallied back with the lowest round for Southwestern in day two, shooting an 81 to come in sixth overall with 172 strokes.
First-year Kelsey Coburn rounded out the top ten finishes for the Pirates with an opening round 83 followed by a 91 to come in a tie for ninth at 174 strokes. Fellow first-year Stephanie Scholer finished in a tie for 15th with 178 strokes.
Southwestern heads to Jekyll Island, Ga. over Spring Break to take on some of the top competition in the nation. The Jekyll Island Invitational will begin on March 19th and continue through March 21st.
