PIRATES TAKE THIRD OVERALL, FIRST OF DIII SCHOOLS
TEMPLE, Texas – The Southwestern women’s golf team
finished in third place overall at the UMHB Lady Crusader Fall
Invitational on Tuesday behind Lubbock Christian and Western Texas.
The Pirates beat out eight Division III schools and were better
than 13 schools overall.
Senior Kristen Davenport was smoking all tournament, finishing in a
tie with Lubbock Christian’s Rachael Dansby for first place
overall out of 88 golfers. With a four-over-par 76 on the first 18
she improved on the solid score to shoot at two-over-par 74 to end
with 150 strokes.
First-year Stephanie Scholer got off to a rocky start on day one,
shooting a 13-over-par 85, but came back hot on day two. She shot a
77 on the second day to end as the second highest finisher for SU
and tied for 12th overall with 162 strokes.
Fellow first-year Kelsey Coburn took the third highest spot for
Southwestern with a first-round 81 and second round 85 to end in a
tie for 17th place with 166 strokes. Junior Cody Wallace was close
behind with her consistent play over the two days. She shot an 83
on day one and 85 on day two, finishing in a tie for 24th with 168
strokes.
First-year Erin Perry rounded out the Pirate competition with 172
strokes (90-82) to finish in a tie for 32nd.
The Pirates will look to continue their top 10 streak at the Alamo
City Classic at Spring Branch, TX on October 12-13.
