PIRATES NAMED AS NGCA ALL-SCHOLAR TEAM FOR SECOND TIME

CORAL SPRINGS, Florida - The Southwestern University Women's Golf Team has once again been named to the NGCA All-Scholar Team. The Pirates' 3.756 team GPA was just .024 behind leader University of Idaho who had a 3.780 team GPA. The second place finish nationally and throughout all divisions improves SU one spot over their 2008 finish. Southwestern is the only Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team and only team in the state of Texas to be recognized by the NGCA All-Scholar Award.

This award recognizes the women’s collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA which includes all of the team’s student-athletes for the 08-09 season.

Additionally, five of Southwestern's student-athletes were named as NGCA All-American Scholars team for excellence in the classroom. Emily Batholet, Delilah Dominguez, Kristen Davenport, Marisa Mauldin, and Victoria Dominguez all earned the prestigious honor. Southwestern's five athletes ties eight other schools throughout all divisions, two others in Division III, for the most on the list.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
