PFLUGERVILLE – Alex Medrano and Joe Sponsel each raced to a top 10 finish helping the Southwestern University men's cross country team to a runner-up finish Friday evening at the Concordia Invitational.
Medrano finished third as he covered the course in a time of 16:53.09 while Sponsel finished eighth with a time of 17:26.14. The two helped the Pirates to a second place team finish at Northeast Metro Park as Concordia claimed the team title behind Riley Zoch's time of 16:33.00.
A quartet of Pirates were impressive finishing in the top 20 to help pad Southwestern's point total with Alec Bergerson finishing 11th, Philip Davis finishing 13th, Duncan Bradley checking in at 16th and Alex Riggs crossing the finish line at 20th.
The grouping of the Pirate finishes couldn't come at a better time as Southwestern takes a week off before heading to the SCAC Championships in Shreveport, La. Centenary College will serve as host of the 2013 Championships set for Nov. 2.
