SEASON BESTS ABOUND AT TRINITY ALUMNI CLASSIC
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The men's track team continues to show vast improvement as the season progresses, posting six season best times and and three personal bests at the Trinity Alumni Classic. The Pirates have one more meet before heading to the SCAC Championships in two weeks.
Josh Gideon had had the highest finish of the day for any Southwestern athlete, coming in second place in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 10:10.83. Sam Martinez also had a great finish in the 500 meter run, snagging third with a 15:54.18 in the event. Stephen Fuentes and Zach Freeland also ran well in the event coming 12th and 14th respectively with times of 16:48.05 and 16:59.95.
The 4x400 meter relay consisting of Alex Sheppard, Avery Sheppard, Matthew Broussard and Allen Smith finished in their best time of the season, taking sixth place with a time of 3:30.31.
Strong finishes continued in the 400 meter dash as all three Pirates in the event came in at season best times. Avery Sheppard took seventh at 49:66, Alex Sheppard came in at 19th at 52.61, and Brian Schaefer finished in 25th place with a 1:00.17 time.
In the 800 meter run, Allen Smith finished in 13th at 2:03.11 in a personal best time and Matthew Broussard was close behind, coming in 13th with a season best time 2:04.75.
Smith continued his strong day at the track with another personal best time in the 1500 meter run. He came in 13th place at 4:11.14 while teammate Sebastian Winkler placed 21st at 4:34.20.
Brady Kent also posted a season best time in the 200 meter dash, coming in 32nd in 26.40 to close out the Pirate finishes.
Southwestern returns to San Antonio on Friday for their final meet before the conference tournament at the Tiger Twilight on Friday.
