Head Coach Lester Sombito
Sombito is in his seventh season as head coach of the Pirates
men's and women's tennis programs at Southwestern University. In
his first season as head coach, he guided both the men's and
women's team to fifth place finishes in the 2005 SCAC
Championships.
Sombito has coached 8 All-SCAC Tournament selections, 1 All-SCAC Tennis Team pick and 12 All-SCAC Honorable Mention picks on the men's side.
On the women's side he has placed six on the All-SCAC Tournament Team, four on the All-SCAC Tennis Team and has had five All-SCAC Honorable Mention selections.
Sombito, a native of Houston, attended the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX where he was a First Team All-Heart of Texas Conference selection in his senior year, was a two-time captain and selected as the MVP by his team as a senior. Sombito served as a recruiter and admissions counselor at his alma-mater, as well as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach at UMHB from 2000-2003.
During his stint at UMHB he also was a tennis instructor for the Belton Independent School District. He was the director of the UMHB Crusader Tennis Camp (2000-2002) and has been an instructor at many national tennis camps around the country. Prior to Southwestern he was the head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa a NAIA school and member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Sombito graduated from UMHB in 1996 and received a master's degree in kinesiology and sports management from the University of Texas in 2002. Sombito is recently married and he and his wife, Katie, reside in Georgetown, TX.

Amanda Garrison

Amanda Garrison enters her second year at Southwestern
University. Along with her assistant soccer coach duties Garrison
will serve as the goalkeeper trainer and is the assistant coach for
the Men's and Women's Tennis programs.
Garrison, a native of Kentucky, came to Texas to be a part of Rice
University's inaugural women's soccer team. As a goalkeeper, she
was a Second Team All-WAC selection in 2001 and was the team MVP in
her rookie season for the Owls. Throughout her tenure between the
pipes, she helped the Owls to winning the programs first Conference
USA championship and received Academic All-Conference honors
throughout her five years of competition.
Since 2002, she has worked as a goalkeeper coach/trainer for
various camps and from 2005-2006 she was the Head Sports Camp
Counselor at the Downtown Club in Houston, TX. After her graduation
from Rice in 2006, Garrison has worked with kids as a ski
instructor for the Aspen Ski Company.
