Pirates Setting Records Heading into Conference
The Southwestern Pirates are getting hot at the right time as they set many personal bests this weekend at the University of Incarnate Word Invitational, the final meet before conference.
The Pirates finished in 5th place at the UIW invitational and set 14 season and/or personal bests along the way. Stephen Montes set a season best in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:07.93. Daniel Withers also set a personal best in the same event with a 5:09.63. The pair finished in 15th and 16th. Ivan Cruickshank set a personal best with a 22.80 in the 50 freestyle to finish 15th. The 400 medley relay team also set a season best with a time of 3:47.74. The team was composed of Ivan Cruickshank, Sam Visser, Patrick Flannigan, and Garrett Holody. Daniel Withers joined the action as he set a season best of 4:36.82 in the 400 IM to finish in 8th. Patrick Flannigan turned in one of the top finishes of the day for the Pirates as he swam a personal best 53.39 in the 100 butterfly to place 4th. Ivan Cruickshank set another personal best as he swam a 1:52.76 in the 200 freestyle. Garrett Holody wasn't far behind in the same event with another personal best of 1:53.65. Continuing on a stellar day, Cruickshank set a personal best in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.94 to place 21st. Daniel Withers also set a season best with a 2:23.62 in the 200 breast stroke. To top off a great day for Pirat Swimming, the 400 freestyle relay set another season best with the team of Patrick Flannigan, Daniel Withers, Ivan Cruickshank, and Garrett Holody a 3:23.68 to finish in 7th.
The Pirates return to the water on February 16-18 for the SCAC Championships in Rockwall, TX.
