LATE GAME GOALS LIFT PIRATES OVER BULLDOGS ON OPENING DAY

SEGUIN, Texas – Southwestern may have waited until the last possible moments to score their first goals of the season but the two goals in the 86th and 87th minutes of Wednesday afternoon's game started the Pirates' season off right with a victory over Texas Lutheran University.

Neither team was able to score during the opening half despite a deluge of shots (Southwestern 6, Texas Lutheran 8), but it was just under two minutes into the second half when Texas Lutheran went ahead on a goal by Ybarra.

SU continued to press and their attacks finally worked when sophomore Evan Perkins found junior Colin McCulloch (pictured) for the equalizer goal. Just over a minute later the Pirates snagged the lead on a game-winner by first-year Timothy Eamma, assisted by sophomore John Mark Mines.

Southwestern had 11 shots to TLU's 16 during the contest. Junior keeper Nick Pierce recorded four saves in goal for the Pirates while TLU's Strealy had two.

The Pirates remain on the road with two games in Belton, TX over the weekend. They face tough American Southwest Conference opponents UT Tyler on Friday at 3:00 and Mary Hardin Baylor Saturday at 5:00.
