Flatau is a 2006 graduate of LBJ High School in Austin, Texas. He was a letter-winner on the Jaguar wrestling team.

Matt is the son of Arthur and Gretchen and has one sibling, Hannah. He is majoring in computational mathematics with a minor in physics at SU.
