2010 SCAC CO-CHAMPS RETURN TO LINKS WITH RENEWED DRIVE

GEORGETOWN, Texas – After just narrowly missing the NCAA Championships last season and being named SCAC Co-Champions the Pirate men's golf team is looking to wipe away all doubt from critics that they are the real deal.

The Pirates return two All-SCAC players, sophomore James Charles (pictured) and junior Sean Madera of this season. Charles was also named SCAC Freshman of the Year after finishing third overall at the SCAC Spring Championships. Madera came in tied for 10th at the tournament and has been a consistent force on the course for SU.

Also returning from the championship team are sophomore Cody Patrick, junior Zach Sewill and sophomore Mikey Vaughan. The Pirates also welcome first-years Joe Brandt and Patrick Vondra. The duo will add depth to this young, experienced Southwestern squad.

After finishing the 2009-10 season at #15 in the final Golfstat ranking the Pirates have high expectations for this season. They will be honing their craft and putting themselves to the test against some of the toughest competition this fall, opening up the season at the Golfweek Fall Invitational in Haines City, Fla. beginning September 12th. The 54-hole event hosts 15 of the nation's top Division III schools, including 10 that finished in the top 20 at the NCAA Championships last year, six of them top 10 finishers.

Southwestern visits Mary Hardin-Baylor for the always competitive Invitational on September 27-28 before getting a good look at their conference competition as they host the SCAC Fall Preview @ Horseshoe Bay, TX on October 11-12. The Pirates will close out the fall season at the Schreiner Invitational on October 18-19.
