PIRATES RECOGNIZED AS CO-CHAMPIONS FOR 2010 SCAC CONFERENCE TITLE

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The 2010 SCAC Golf Championships came to a conclusion on Sunday evening with the Centre College and Southwestern University men finishing in a tie for the conference crown. Centre earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament via a tiebreaker.

It is the first team tie for the conference title in the 19-year history of the SCAC Men's Golf Championships.

Centre led wire-to-wire but had to go to the tiebreaker (fifth score each day) to earn the title after the Colonels and Pirates of Southwestern finished in a flat-footed tie at 926 strokes for the tournament. Rhodes took third place and Oglethorpe finished in fourth. Individually, Centre's Chris Morris capped a spectacular weekend with a round three score of 72 to finish seven strokes ahead of Southwestern's Ricky Jones for SCAC Medalist honors.

The Centre men's golf team will next compete in the NCAA Division III Championships in Hershey, Penn. on Tuesday, May 11 through Friday, May 14.
