MEN'S GOLF STORMS BACK FROM FIFTH TO END TIED FOR LEAD AT SCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - After a day one that found the Pirates just five strokes out of first place and a day two cut short by torrential rains and thunderstorms the Southwestern men's golf team put together a sensational final round and a half to end tied for first place with Centre at the SCAC Championships. SU lost out on their first-ever title in a tie-breaker, the fifth score each day.

Senior Ricky Jones put his stamp on the tournament and set the tone for the Pirates, ending in second place overall with a 13 over par 223. His final round 70 was the lowest round of any golfer thoughout the tournament. He was just seven strokes off the leader, Chris Morris of Centre.

First-year James Charles was consistently strong all tournament, shooting a 75, 76, 74 to end in third place overall at 15 over par with 225 strokes. Sophomore Sean Madera ended tied for 11th with one other golfer at 25 over par.

In a three-way tie for 28th was first-year Mikey Vaughan who finished at 34 over par and Cody Patrick rounded out the Pirate attack with a three-way tie for 31st place at 36 over par.

The tie for first place finish is the highest Southwestern has ever finished at the SCAC tournament. They graduate one senior from this years' squad which bodes well for the future of men's golf at SU.
