MEN'S GOLF IN SECOND PLACE AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT WEST REGIONAL
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Even with a late start and slow play on the course the Southwestern Pirates men's golf team was able to put together a solid team showing at the West Region Invitational held at Teravista Golf Club on Monday afternoon. After two rounds of play SU sits in second place overall with one round to go.
Southwestern started out strong despite the delayed start, finishing in second place out of eight teams and just 11 strokes behind the leader, UT-Brownsville. Ricky Jones had an especially great start, shooting an opening round 70 and coming in second place overall.
Mikey Vaughan and Sean Madera finished in the top 10 after Round 1. Vaughan came in tied for sixth with a 73 and Madera was tied for 10th at 74 strokes.
Jones faltered a little in the second round, shooting a 78 to fall to a tie for sixth place with two others and teammate Madera. Madera was consistent in round two with a 74, matching his round one total. James Charles improved by two strokes in the second round, shooting a 77, to come in 25th at 156 strokes while Vaughan hit a rough patch to end tied for 30th at 159 strokes. Cody Patrick rounded out the top five for Southwestern at 163 and tied for 40th and Zach Sewell ended tied for 49th at 174 strokes.
The eight teams will close out Regional action on Tuesday with one round beginning at 8:00am.
