MEN’S GOLF ENDS THE FALL SEASON WITH A 12TH PLACE FINISH AT ROYAL OAKS INVITATIONAL

CHESTNUT MT., Ga. – The Southwestern Pirate golf team closed out their fall season on Tuesday at the Royal Oaks Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University. SU finished at +44 four the tournament an in 12th place out of 16 teams.

The Pirates got off to a great start on day one, finishing tied for fifth place and ten strokes off the lead with a 294. Senior Ricky Jones came off the links in a five way tie for tenth place after an opening round even-par 71.

Round two saw SU hit a snag as no Pirates shot better than Jones’ five-over-par 76 on the day which landed him in a tie for 20th place with 147 total strokes. First-year James Charles shot an opening round of 74, but added three strokes on the final day to finish with a 78 and in a tie for 40th with 152 strokes.

Sophomore Cody Patrick shot at 75 on the first round and followed with an 80 to end in a tie for 48th place with 155 strokes. First-year Mikey Vaughan was close behind in a tie for 62nd with 158 strokes (74-84) while sophomore Sean Madera finished with 168 strokes (82-86) and in a tie for 80th.

The tournament marks the end of the fall competition season for Southwestern. They will return to the links in the Spring with their first contest on February 22nd at the Mary Hardin Baylor Spring Invitational in Temple, Texas.
