MEN'S GOLF TAKES SECOND; MISS FIRST PLACE BY ONE STROKE

TUNICA, Miss. - The Southwestern men's golf team was just one stroke away from capturing the title at the Rhodes College Men's Fall Classic on Monday, falling to Huntingdon College 582-581. Sophomore Cody Patrick (pictured) was tops for SU, ending in second place individually out of 106 golfers.

After a solid first round by the Pirates left them in first place after day one, SU got back to work with Patrick leading the way. Patrick shot an even par 72 in his first round and bettered it by one stroke in the second to end one under par for the event with 143 strokes. He catapulted from a tie for 14th after the first day to all alone in second place. First-year James Charles ended three-strokes behind Patrick after shooting a final round 77 to end in a tie for ninth with 146 (69-77) strokes.

Senior Ricky Jones finished in a tie for 15th place with a 147 (72-75) strokes while sophomore Sean Madera came in a tie for 38th with 152 strokes (70-82). First-year Cameron Fanning came streaking back into the competition after a first round 91 and shot a four-over-par 76 on the final day to end with 167 strokes.

The Pirates outscored 18 other teams including seven teams from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Southwestern will return home for a dual meet against the University of Dallas on Saturday at Berry Creek in Georgetown.
