Late Rally Sinks Pirates

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Pirates had great defense and kept close, until errors cost them the game to Dallas, losing 5-2.

The Crusaders broke the ice and got on the board in the top of the 3rd inning. Thornton scored off a RBI double by Keele. Then Kipp scored later in the 6th off an RBI single by Pierce, putting the University of Dallas up 2-0.

The Pirates found their offense in the 7th inning, when Tyler Herriage was driven in by Charlie Garrett to cut it to a 2-1 game.

What seemed to be a tight game started to come apart for Southwestern in the last two innings.  A couple of miscues allowed the Crusaders to extend their lead. Farris scored on a wild pitch, followed by Caluda stealing third and scoring on an error by the catcher. Kipp stole second, and did the same thing Caluda did and had Dallas up 5-1.

Tyler Herriage scored one more run for Southwestern in the bottom of the 9th on a single by Will Burks. However, it was not enough, and the team lost 5-2.  The loss drops them to 2-29 on the season.

Will Burks led the offense by going 2-2 and batted in a run.  Tyler Herriage also scored twice for the Pirates.  The win went to Andrew Bossert, who pitched a complete game and gave up only 4 hits and allowed 2 earned runs to improve to 6-2 on the season. Jason Stading pitched well in the loss, allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings of work.

Southwestern will close the series against the University of Dallas tomorrow at home at 1:00PM.
