Pirates Fall to Texas Lutheran in Extra Innings
SEGUIN, Texas - The Pirates lost 8-7 in 10 innings to Texas Lutheran on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pirates had a 1-0 lead with Cruz Luna scoring a run in the top of the 2nd inning. Luna led off with a double down the left field line and scored on a single to left field by Lance Gottardy.
The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd on two doubles and a single to lead 3-1.
In the top of the 4th, Southwestern scored two more runs on RBI singles by Jay Sterling and Colton Shea. An error by the third baseman allowed Gottardy to cross the plate and by the end of the frame the Pirates led 4-3.
By the bottom of the 5th, the Bulldogs took a 7-4 lead off of a trio of run scoring singles and a sacrifice fly by Gennusa.
Southwestern rallied in the 7th and 8th innings and scored off two wild pitches and an error by the catcher. This tied the game at 7 and forced extra innings.
In the 10th, the Bulldogs loaded the bases and Bohrmann hit a walk-off single to seal the 8-7 victory. The Pirates were led offensively by Cruz Luna, who went 2-4 with two doubles, two stolen bases, a walk and scored three runs. TLU improved to 18-6 with the win and Southwestern's loss dropped them to 2-24 on the season.
The Pirates continue on the road this Saturday, March 23rd when they take on Centenary in a doubleheader.
