Shelton Steps Down as Head Baseball Coach
GEORGETOWN, Texas - Jim Shelton has been a fixture in the coach’s box for the Southwestern baseball team, but after 19 years in the program has stepped down as the head coach. Shelton spent 11 seasons at the helm and was the assistant coach under Jim Mallon for eight years prior to being named head coach.

Stuart Earns Baseball SCAC All-Sportsmanship Nod
SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its fourth annual Baseball All-Sportsmanship team. Eleven baseball players were selected to the 2012 squad including Southwestern University senior Matt Stuart.

Webber Highlights SCAC Awards for Pirates
MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced their 2012 All-SCAC Baseball Team on Thursday evening at the SCAC Conference Tournament and senior pitcher Chris Webber earned a well-deserved spot on the squad. Senior infielder Nate Shipp earned an Honorable Mention selection.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern fell to Hendrix 8-6 on Sunday afternoon in a roller coaster of a game that saw multiple tie scores and lead changes. Prior to the game, the Pirates honored seniors Cray Betts, Nate Shipp, Matt Stuart, and Chris Webber in a special Senior Day ceremony.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern defeated Hendrix 2-1 and then lost 11-0 on the afternoon. The Pirates received a stellar pitching performance from Chris Webber in game one and the Warriors saw a gem from Cannon Schrank and their relievers in game two.

39 Student-Athletes Receive Senior Watches at Annual Ceremony
GEORGETOWN, Texas - Thanks to the generous donations of parents, alumni and students in the Pirate Crew, Southwestern University's Booster Club, the Athletic Department was able to continue the tradition of awarding watches to senior athletes whom had completed eligibility while at SU. This is the third year for the ceremony.

SEGUIN, Texas – Southwestern was defeated on Tuesday afternoon by Texas Lutheran 4-3. The Pirates were in control most of the game, but yielded to the home Bulldogs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

IRVING, Texas – Southwestern lost to the University of Dallas 6-5 in extra innings on Sunday. The ‘Bucs rallied in the seventh inning to tie the score and extend the game. However, the Crusaders broke the stalemate in the bottom of the eleventh inning for the win.

IRVING, Texas – Southwestern dropped two games in the double header on Saturday afternoon to the University of Dallas, 3-2 and 6-3. The Crusaders took the lead in the last inning in game one and broke out of a tie in the eighth inning to win game two.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern fell to non-conference opponent McMurry 11-7 on Tuesday afternoon. The game saw grand slams from both clubs in the high scoring shootout. The War Hawks took advantage of early opportunities and held on to the lead for the victory.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern lost to Trinity 10-0 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon following a pair of wins yesterday. The Tiger’s staff ace Ben Klimesh struck out seven Pirate batters across seven scoreless innings.

Southwestern Wins Pair Against #1 Trinity
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Pirates defeated the Tigers 6-2 and 9-7 in Friday’s double header. Trinity entered the game ranked #1 in the country by D3Baseball.com before Southwestern handed them their first two conference losses on the year. It was the first time Trinity has lost in back to back games all season. Southwestern played disciplined baseball and capitalized on opportunities when they had them to earn the victories.

Southwestern University Mourns the Loss of a Legend
GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern University mourns the passing of baseball coaching legend, Coach Jim Mallon. Mallon, 67, passed away Sunday afternoon following complications from heart surgery. Services for Coach Mallon will be held on the campus of Southwestern University at Rockwell Field on Saturday, March 3 at 2pm. There will be a reception with light refreshments immediately following the service in the Robertson Center. ABILENE, Texas – Southwestern lost 12-6 at Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday afternoon. The Pirates had a strong offensive showing and continued to battle throughout the game but came up short. The ‘Bucs struggled to contain Hardin-Simmons’ Troy Nicholson, who went 4-5 with two homeruns, a double, six RBI, and scored three runs to lead the Cowboys to victory.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – In a rainy afternoon game at Rockwall Field, the Pirates emerged victorious to beat Texas Lutheran University 8-1 on Friday. The Pirates starting pitcher, Matt Stuart, pitched a complete game and allowed only one unearned run on the day. It was a total team effort, as seven different ‘Bucs had hits and six scored runs to support Stuart’s stellar performance.

Baseball Blasts Way to Pair of 5-4 Wins Over Schreiner
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern Pirates rode a power surge, courtesy of Jeff Glasgow and Nate Shipp, to a pair of 5-4 victories on Tuesday afternoon. Glasgow went 3-3 in the opener, with two doubles, a homerun and drove in four runs en route to the win. Shipp led the way in game two with a three-run shot over the fence in left center to jump start the ‘Bucs.

BELTON, Texas – The Pirates were defeated in consecutive 3-1 games on Saturday despite strong pitching performances from Chris Webber in game 1, and Colton Mikulencak and Max Smith in game 2. The solid Southwestern defense allowed only seven hits in each game. The Crusaders’ received some timely hitting along with good pitching to boost them past the ‘Bucs.

The Cru picks up its first win of the season bringing their record to 1-1. Southwestern is still looking for its first victory and move to 0-5 following the loss.

AUSTIN, Texas - Southwestern faced a tough Concordia squad that fared well at home this weekend. The Pirates (0-4) enjoyed some strong innings in the double header, but it wasn’t enough against Concordia (3-0) who defeated them 8-4 and 15-3.

Concordia Tops Southwestern 10-9 In Run Scoring Affair
AUSTIN, Texas – The battle between the Pirates (0-2) and Tornados (1-0) came down the team that was fortunate enough to have the last at bat and home field advantage. Both teams featured run scoring onslaughts that seemed to turn the momentum almost every inning. The game highlighted productive scoring in all but three frames between the two sides. Concordia took the game into the ninth inning tied and saw Andrew Burns cross the plate to give them the win in their season and home opener.

Revamped Training Room Offers Better Service to Athletes
Thanks to generous donations and various fundraising events throughout the years the Southwestern University Athletic Department unveiled their newly remodeled athletic training facility this fall. The updates include an expanded treatment area, additional taping/treatment tables, custom paint (with logos still to come), a flat-screen television, new computers and new countertops.
