PIRATES DROP GAME THREE TO MILLSAPS, 8-3

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern baseball team dropped a tough 8-3 contest to Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon at Rockwell Field.

The loss drops Southwestern to 6-8 (0-3 SCAC) while Millsaps improves to 11-1 (4-1 SCAC).

The game was a pitcher's duel early, as Southwestern scored the only run of the game through the first four innings in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Matthew Clark to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

Southwestern added to its lead in the fifth on an RBI single from Kyle Belski and when Chris Lowry came around to score on an error to give the Pirates a 3-0 advantage.

Millsaps scratched across an unearned run in the seventh on an RBI double from Tyler Berry after the leadoff runner reached on an error to make it a 3-1 contest.

Millsaps put together a rally in the eighth inning, taking the lead on a sac fly and a two-run single to give the Majors a 4-3 lead. The Majors tacked on four more runs in the ninth inning to make it a 7-3 game, and the Pirates were unable to mount a rally in the ninth inning, sealing the Majors' win.

Southwestern starting pitcher Chris Churchwell pitched an outstanding game but received a no-decision, allowing two earned runs over seven innings while striking out five batters. Millsaps reliever Boomer Hudson earned the win and improved to 3-0, while Alan Lowry incurred the loss to fall to 0-1.

Michael Murphy continued his outstanding weekend with a 3-for-5 effort while Belski notched a pair of hits and one RBI. Berry led the Majors with three hits and four RBI.

Up next, the Pirates travel to face UT-Dallas on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.
