PIRATES FALL AT TLU 14-6

Despite recording 6 runs on 11 hits at Texas Lutheran on Tuesday afternoon, the Pirates fell 14-6. The Pirates committed six errors in the loss and went through six pitchers to finish out the contest.

Southwestern University posted the first run of the game in the first inning, but TLU quickly responded to bring the game even 1-1 at the bottom of the inning.

The Pirates were held scoreless in the next four innings while the Bulldogs scored nine runs, four in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth. SU made a push to get back in the game putting three runs on the board in the sixth and one in the seventh to cut the lead to 10-6, but Texas Lutheran pushed back and scored four in the bottom of the eigth. In the ninth inning, Southwestern's rally could only get one across the plate to bring the final to 14-6.

Southwestern was led by secondbaseman Nate Shipp. Shipp went 2-2 with 1 RBI and scored once. Centerfielder Todd Boone had a solid afternoon going 3-5 on the afternoon and scoring twice for the Pirates. Catcher Michael Murphy and shortstop Matthew Clark both drove in two runs.

Chris Churchwell was the losing pitcher for the Pirates and moves to 2-1 on the year. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits while striking out one and walking none. TLU's Jeremiah Steinert was the winning pitcher to improve to 2-0.

Southwestern falls to 6-5 on the year. They will return home on Saturday to open up conference action against Millsaps. First pitch will be at 2:00 pm with the second half of the double header to follow.
