TRACK OPENS SPRING SEASON AT TRINITY INVITATIONAL

The Pirate track team kicked off the spring season at the Trinity Invitational in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, February 28th. The women placed sixth while the men placed seventh at the event.

The 800 meter run gave the Pirate women their best finish of the day. Junior Tami Warner finished in second place with a time of 2:24.31. Warner was followed by junior Laura Kromann who missed out on fourth place by less than a second, capturing fifth in a time of 2:31.56. Senior Kristin Lahaie placed seventh in 2:34.22.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team also had a strong showing for Southwestern, finishing in third place with a time of 55.05.

In the women's field events, first-year Kelly Myers set a new school record in the discus throw. Myers threw 25.50m, .50m better than her seed throw, to take 13th and the record. Sophomre Jennifer Tindle had the best finish in the field events, coming in sixth place in the triple jump going 10.46m.

On the men's side, the 4x100 meter relay was the best finish, placing fourth with a time of 46.60. A pair of eighth place finishes in the 800 meter run by junior Matthew Broussard and the 5000 meter run by junior Daniel Rudd were the other strong showings for the day.

The track team will compete next at the Tarleton Relays in Stephenville, Texas on Thursday, March 5th.
