TENNIS WRAPS UP SEASON AT SCAC CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

The Southwestern men's and women's tennis teams closed out the 2009 season with a seventh and eighth place finish at the SCAC Tournament in Little Rock, AR on Sunday.

The Pirate women narrowly defeated Hendrix 5-4 on the women's side to capture seventh place. Southwestern took two of the three doubles matches in the contest. Charlotte Huskey and Sarah Fitzsimmons defeated Stevens/French 8-6 and the duo of Lali Satyavada and Jessica Gaines took down Cape/Vo 8-4.

Huskey, Fitzsimmons and Satyavada carried their doubles success over to the singles side with two-set victories. Huskey easily handled Hendrix's Anne French 6-1, 6-1, Fitzsimmons didn't allow Cape a single game in the first set and out-lasted her in the second set 7-5. Satyavada held Vo to only one game in her dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory.

On the men's side, Southwestern fell to Centre College 6-3. The Pirates started out strong capturing two of the three doubles matches. CJ Esquivel and D'Artagnan Bebel defeated Deal/Hage 8-2 and Casey Guinn and Griffin Ferry took down Brunner/Roberts 8-6.

However, Southwestern was unable to carry that success over to the singles matches and won only one of the six. Bebel defeated Bryce Meredith in the third flight 6-3, 6-0 for the Pirates third point.

The women end the season at 8-7 while the men end up at 5-9.
