Swimming Dives into DII Competition

Nov. 12, 2008

Southwestern University Swimming dropped the meet (Men: 108-88; Women: 102-66) to take on a very talented DII University of Incarnate Word swim team, but came away with an event victory and two new records in hand.

A pair of first-year men swimmers made their mark in the pool by breaking two school records. FY Evan Firth broke the 400 Individual Medley record with a time of 4:28.32; and SO Dustin McCammon was hot on his heals, also beating the previous record. In the 50 freestyle, FY Travis Macha left his mark on the leader board posting a time of 22.23.

On the women's side, SR Alana Bergfield beat the competition and took first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.45.

Overall, the team competed extremely well against a very talented Incarnate Word team. The Pirates have been posting very fast times for this point in the season and took UIW to the wall in almost every other race. There were 13 season best times in all for the Pirates which shows they are a team to be reckoned with by the SCAC.

The next meet for the Pirates will be at home on Saturday, November 18th at 3:00 p.m. against Trinity University and Austin College.
